What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal uses pulses of laser light to destroy the hair follicle to remove hair in the treated area(s).
How Laser Hair Removal Compares To Other Hair Removal Methods
Hair removal has been a hot topic for centuries! Treatments range from electrolysis, depilatories (like Nair, etc), shaving, and waxing.
Laser hair removal is 60 times faster, more comfortable and more reliable than either waxing or electrolysis. It is more permanent than depilatories or shaving and less likely to irritate the skin.
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Simply put, laser hair removal allows a targeted wavelength of laser-focused light, pulsed for a specific length of time, to heat the basal stem cells in the hair follicle (which causes hair growth) without heating the surrounding skin. The follicles absorb the light and stop growing hair.
How Effective is Laser Hair Removal?
The hair follicles do not produce all the hair in an area at the same time. In other words, the hair you see on your legs today is accompanied by hair beneath the skin that has not yet arrived on the skin surface. That is why 6-8 treatments are required: because one area of hair is destroyed while other areas of hair remain beneath, ready to erupt at a later date.
Because laser hair removal works best on dark hair, those with naturally red, platinum or white hair have less success with hair removal. Furthermore, while laser hair removal does remove a significant percentage of hair in the treated area(s), most people will need repeated treatments over the ensuing years after treatment. Dr. Gerut or the PA, Jessica, will advise you about these issues at your consultation.
