Restylane

What is Restylane?

Restylane® is the trade name for a line of injectable hyaluronic fillers (HA) that temporarily plump the skin for a younger appearance. Since its FDA approval in 2002, it has proven to be an extremely effective anti-aging option.

Where is Restylane Used?

Restylane is commonly used to plump the lips and fill the nasolabial folds (nose to mouth lines). It can also be used to fill age-related hollows in the face, such as in the temples, and the orbital troughs (the area under and around the eyes), and to create volume in the cheeks.

How is Restylane Injected?

After numbing the area with a special numbing cream, Dr. Gerut or Jessica, his PA (Physician’s Assistant) will use a fine gauge needle to inject the gel into the treatment area. Because the Restylane products contain Lidocaine, the discomfort of the injection process is minimized.

Once the injections are completed, you will be given ice packs to apply to the areas.

Restylane Side Effects

When injected by seasoned injectors such as Dr. Gerut and his PA, Restylane has proven to have little untoward effects. You can expect a bit of normal swelling around the injection site, but this is relieved with an ice pack to the area.

How Long Does Restylane Last?

You can generally expect your results to last approximately 12 months. However, this can be affected by the area in which the injection is placed. For example, improvements in the cheeks or nasolabial folds may last longer than those in the lips. Furthermore, your metabolism may alter the length of time that results are visible.

Other Restylane Products

Restylane Contour augments the cheek area for those “apple-like” cheeks that many of us had in our youth. It is the only filler in the US formulated with a special technology that allows a dynamic, natural expression that moves as you move—no more “frozen face.” It has received rave reviews since its introduction in Europe (under the name Restylane Volyme) since 2010, with nearly 2 million patients enjoying the young-looking results.

Restylane Defyne is most often used for the deeper laugh lines, such as in the nasolabial folds (the lines from the nose to the mouth) and the marionette lines (the lines from the lips to the chin). You will notice a youthful, natural appearance, with no worries that your facial expressions will be limited.

Restylane Kysse is the first lip filler that provides flexible lip movement with natural volume that lasts for up to a year. It was designed specifically for the lips and can be used to lift and fill the skin of the upper lip, often called “smokers’ lines.” Kysse will infuse your lips with volume elasticity and moisture for a more youthful pout!

As we age, our cheek pads tend to descend lower on the face. Restylane Lyft is most often used in the cheeks, to re-create the lovely lifted cheek that you enjoyed in your youth. Lyft creates this youthful lift without limiting your facial movements.

Restylane Refyne is similar to Restylane Defyne, in that its goal is to treat the nasolabial folds and marionette lines. The difference is that Defyne adds a bit more structural support beneath the skin—hence, its use in the deeply wrinkled areas. Dr. Gerut and Jessica will guide you as to which is best for your unique situation.
